Skylights
A skylight is made up of different components. Most of these components can be changed to suit your particular need.
Dome
The Dome is made of acrylic blown in to a dome shape. This shape will help it to keep clean from contaminants that land on the roof, and to catch the sun as it travels across the sky.
The Dome is usually made of a opal coloured acrylic that enables approximately 78% light transmission but at the same time lessens ultra violet light giving a softer less glare type of light. The dome can also be made in clear acrylic. This will give a bit more light but the light will be more harsh and less spread in the room.
In bush fire zones glass is placed under the dome and in the advent of a fire the glass which is fire rated will stop any sparks from entering the roof by melting the dome. You need to contact us or your local council if you are not sure if you live in a bush fire zone.
Dome Support
The Dome support can be vented to allow air flow. This will create a natural movement of air through the duct and directed to the outside, that is under the dome protecting it from rain but still allowing air to be able to flow freely. If the air has to be drawn from the room an electric fan can be installed in the dome see Skylight exhaust fan
Tray
Made from .6 Galvanized steel, the tray is folded to suit the kind of roofs.
Duct
The duct can be made from a variety of different materials to suit your lighting needs
Mirror Light © This duct has a mirror like surface that is made of polished aluminum because of its highly reflective surface it can make it up to 50% brighter than a conventional duct . Prestige Skylights only recommends that Mirror Light © be used on south or east facing roof were maximum light needs to be collected. Available in the full range of our square and rectangular skylights.
Appliance white colourebond A glossy reflective white surface that is less reflective of radiant heat than a silver duct. Giving you a cool, even white light. Colourbond, best used on a North or West facing roof.
Flexi Duct Flexible ducting with a reflective foil lining makes it ideal for Long, ducts awkward locations and D.I.Y. kits .
Diffuser
Prismatic k15 diamond diffuser for a non vented skylight each one of the small diamonds or prisms will spread the light evenly around the room.
New frosted glass look skylight
Egg create diffusers to allow air flow up the duct . This works in conjunction with a static or electric vented skylight
Summer diffusers Many people are concerned about heat being transmitted into a room if they install a skylight
Light control shutters can be installed to close off light and heat but this can be an expensive way to reduce heat. A cheaper but effective alternative is a tinted summer diffuser
This diffuser is UV resistant reducing harmful UV(B) rays. Tinted to give a cool light (like wearing sunglasses but still providing all the natural light expected from a skylight.
The diffuser is fluted which traps air and acts as double glazing giving up to 40% better insulation than a single pane of glass.
So when we have hot weather, lift out your regular diffuser andput in the tinted summer diffuser (which is only needed a few weeks of the year) The rest of the year put back your regular diffuser
Priced at only $35.00 (Aust.) for a 600x600mm diffuser this is a great alternative and effective way to reduce heat and still let the light in.
Frames
Made from 1.6mm Aluminum tee-section 40x40 powder coated white (not PVC plastic) . This gives a tough surface that will resist discoloring, scratching and will give you that Prestige look for many years (excludes round Skylights)
